Ugggg. . . just what the world needs, another garter stitch shawl.  Oh, wait. . . we do need one?   BEHOLD!  Inspired by my favorite place to walk in Bellingham, Taylor Dock.  Connecting Fairhaven to Boulevard Park, this walk along the water is popular year round with joggers, cyclists and dog owners.

Taylor is knit side to side and features a drop stitch that creates the illusion of two separate sections.  It's easy to knit and easy to wear.  The shawl is modeled below by the lovely KniPurl

MATERIALS

·         One skein Sapling Sock Yarn (shown in Oyster)

·         Size US 6 needles (or size needed to make gauge)

·         Two stitch markers

·         Tapestry needle

GAUGE

 24 st and 32 rows = 4 inches in garter stitch

STITCH GUIDE

CO                         cast on

K                            knit

P                            purl

Kfb                        knit front back

St                           stitch

K2tog                    knit 2 together

PM                        place marker

BO                        bind off

yo                          yarn over

SECTION 1

CO 2

Row 1: Kfb, k to end

Knit 3 rows

Repeat Row 1-4 until you have 33 stitches

DROP STITCH SET UP

Row 1: Kfb, k to end

Row 2: K to last 4 st, pm, k1, yo, k2tog,, pm, k1

Row 3: Knit all

Row 4: K to marker, k1, p1, k1, k to end of row

Row 5: Kfb, k to end

Row 6: K to marker, K1, p1, k1, k to end of the row

Row 7: Knit all

Row 8: K to marker, K1, p1, k1, k to end of the row

Repeat Row 5-8 until you have 59 stitches

SECTION 2

Row 1: Kfb, k to end

Row 2: K to marker, k1, p1, k1, k to end of row, CO 2

Row 3: BO 2, K1, *yo, k2tog*, repeat * 11 more times (total of 12 eyelets), k to end of the row

Row 4: K to marker, K1, p1, k1, k to last 3 st, k2tog, k1

Row 5: K all

Repeat Rows 4 & 5 until you have 40 stitches ending on Row 4

Row 1-B: Kfb, k to end

Row 2-B: K to marker, k1, p1, k1, k to end of row

Repeat Row 1-B & 2-B until you have 59 st

Repeat Section 2 one more time

Repeat Rows 1-3 once more

SECTION 3

Row 1: K to marker, k1, p1, k1, k to last 3 st, k2tog, k1

Row 2: Knit all

Row 3: K to marker, k1, p1, k1, k to end

Row 4: Knit all

Repeat Row 1-4 until you have 35 stitches

Next Row: K to marker, K1, drop next st down and tease it out a few rows down, k2tog. 

Pull dropped stitch all of the way through to the end.

Next Row: K2tog, knit to end.

Knit 2 rows

Row 1-B: K to last 3 st, k2tog, k1

Row 2B-4B: Knit all

Repeat Row 1B-4B until you have 2 st

K2tog

FINISHING

Break yarn and thread through remaining stitch.

Weave in ends and block shawl.
